“From Genghis Khan to Ellis Island”
Around the World in 24 Days
RTWClub has designed this journey around the world to 3 continents, 9 countries, and 8 UNESCO World Heritage Sites out of a commitment to creating a truly transformative travel experience that’s accessible to curious, adventurous travelers who are not necessarily wealthy.
On this journey, we experience the impressive Great Wall in China, India’s famed Taj Mahal, mysterious Petra, bustling Bethleham, and storied Jerusalem in the Mideast. Then we explore eternal Rome, charming Medieval London, and vibrant New York City where we conclude this epic journey examining the experiment in migration, immigration, and governance that is the contemporary United States.
Travel, especially round-the-world travel, is fraught with the perils of flight delays, lost luggage, medical considerations, and countless other issues. Your dedicated round-the-world Tour Director is right there with you for the entire trip smoothing connections, managing local staff, and making adjustments as necessary. On this trip you don’t have problems, we have your problems.
At RTWClub, we take pride in delivering the highest possible quality in every circumstance at a price point unrivaled in round-the-world travel. We deeply value our vendors and guides and cultivate our relationships with them so that we are able to provide the highest quality local service, insights, and value in the market.
WHAT TO PACK
At RTWClub, we travel light and lean so that we can travel further, go deeper, and see things that are off the beaten track. This means that we complete the entire trip with nothing more than carry-on luggage.
Yes, you read that correctly
We take only carry-on luggage for a 24-day circumnavigation of the planet. At first, guests are often reluctant to believe this is possible, but without fail always realize within the first leg or two of the itinerary that they could have brought even less. Beyond making your many transfers on this trip much more comfortable by carrying less, the simple fact is that if your luggage was lost by an airline, we move so fast and so far, that you might not even catch up with your missing bags until returning home after the trip. That’s why we travel with only an airline-approved roll-aboard, a daypack, and one personal carry-on item like a purse.
Here’s a sample packing list that makes that easy:
-
Soft-sided tends to be more durable. People go either way on whether they prefer a spinner or pull style bag. Remember, you want to travel with a bag that accommodates “International Travel” specifications.
While we really like Eagle Creek brand products (and their LIFETIME guarantee), there are some other solid suggestions below as well:
https://www.eaglecreek.com/products/tarmac-xe-4-wheel-carry-on
Softside Carry-on: Travelpro Platinum Elite 21-inch Expandable Spinner
Hardside Carry-on: Briggs & Riley Sympatico Expandable 21-inch International Spinner
-
A small backpack to carry everything you’ll need for a day out exploring a destination with which you’re unfamiliar. It needs to be able to comfortably accommodate at least a water bottle, jacket, rain shell, umbrella, snacks, required medication, recharging powerbank & cables, camera, sunscreen.
Backpacks with a built in water reservoir are recommended. Osprey, Camelback, and Gregory all make quality products in this category.
Choose the pack that FITS YOU BEST.
-
This can be a purse, tote bag, or small shoulder bag. It can double as a fashion accessory, so choose the option that fits your style… just so long as it’s allowed as carry-on luggage.
-
Not to be confused with a fashion or “fashion money belt” (see below), this belt fit inside between your abdomen and the inside of your pants, and is the safest place to hide cash and important documents.
-
We like Eagle Creek Pack-It Cubes to contain, compress, and organize our clothing.
Let’s take a moment here to talk about Merino wool. Merino wool is a remarkable fiber that keeps you warm when it’s cold out, cool when it’s hot out, dries quickly, has remarkable wicking properties, works whether it’s wet or dry, washes easily, and remains odor-free for tens-of-times longer than cotton.
Guides swear by it.
“But surely it’s itchy”, you ask? Nope, Merino wool is NOT ITCHY. It has been developed in Italy for almost a thousand where only the finest Merino sheep producing the most itch-free wool were bred to create the incredibly versatile, surprisingly easy to use Merino wool garments we enjoy today. Merino wool costs more than cotton (about $140 for a medium weight sweater, $20 for socks, $40 a pair for underwear), but its performance is simply unrivaled.
RTWClub recommends populating your travel wardrobe with Merino wool wherever possible. This will keep you warmer, cooler, drier and reduce the frequency with which you’ll need to wash clothes. Quality brands in this category include Smartwool, Icebreaker, Mons Royale.
That said, here’s what to pack inside those cubes:
1 medium weight sweater
(merino wool recommended)
See here1 nice outfit
Perhaps a dress for the ladies to wear out to the nicer dinners, slacks and a collared button-down shirt for men.2 pairs of long pants
At least one of those pairs being quick dry, easy wash recommended1 pair shorts
Quick dry, easy wash recommended1 bathing suit
Quick dry recommended5 pair underwear
Smartwool brand merino wool recommended5 pair socks
Merino wool recommended1 warm hat that covers your ears
Merino wool recommended1 pair light/med weight gloves
Something like this1 light/ultralight rain shell
This also doubles as a super handy windbreaker.1 belt
Make it a money belt. Clutch.1 pair sensible shoes:
You should be able to walk all day in these, and then wear to our more casual dinners in the evening. The more waterproof the better. Not sneakers, but not hiking boots. Leather is fashionably versatile. Many guides swear by super versatile, unisex Blundstones, which are made of waterproofed leather and are easy to dress up or down.1 pair nicer shoes

Outside of religious sites/places of worship, it is generally not necessary to dress in any particular fashion.
When visiting religious sites/temples, covering one’s body with loose-fitting garments and hair with a scarf, is often customary - especially for women. Such garments are often provided free or for a very small charge.
Both men and women must remove shoes upon entering many places of worship.
-
We have an extremely low precedence of crime of any kind. The safest place for your personal effects is in the safe in your hotel room. The next safest place is discreetly hidden on your person (money belt).
We are very often accompanied by local guides who are adept in regional customs, which goes a very long way to insuring personal security. Relationships make a difference.

The food is excellent: Varied, generous, and high quality. RTWClub’s first priority is guest safety. For this reason, we patronize only those hotels and restaurants that provide safe, delicious, hygienic food. For example, in India, we stay only in 5-star hotels.
These establishments not only have the highest hygiene and culinary standards but pride themselves on serving an extremely generous breakfast buffet.
As such, it’s customary for guests to take items from their spectacular breakfast buffets to enjoy at lunch.
You will eat very well on this trip.
